Hello, this website is a gallery of what I, Alex Pate, have created in my time at McNeese State University. Most of the works that you will see are assignments from courses I have taken. There are, however, some projects that I felt inspired to create. I really enjoyed learning and creating many types of art at McNeese and I look forward to learning and creating even more after graduation!

Artist Statement

Graphic design, in the simplest form, is geometric shapes that are finely tuned into an image. This use of logic and creativity is a tool that all designers master and refine to their own personal taste. However, graphic designers also have to keep their client’s in mind as well. There needs to be a balance of what the client wants and their message while preserving the designer’s own self-expression. I provide this balance with my research, sketches and problem solving.

When given a project I start, not with Adobe Illustrator or sketches but with research. To find inspiration, I will research the subject matter and search for images on the topic.By the time I’m ready to start creating my design on the computer I’ll already know the font I’ll use, the tools I’ll use and the possible solutions to the problems that will be awaiting me.

As a graphic designer I am always expecting a change that will need to be made in a design. Whether it be a change I make to create a more aesthetically pleasing image or a change a client makes about the color or font. I also know there must be some compromise between a designer and a client if there is a disagreement. What is most important to me is that the client’s message and feelings are being heard while still being visually and aesthetically pleasing to the viewers, and making the best design possible.
